Bukhara Suzani Wall Hanging – Cream Ground with Red & Green Florals

A newly embroidered suzani in the Bukhara manner: a cream cotton ground worked almost edge to edge with fine floral scrolls in red, green and blue, punctuated by small rosettes and — on the borders — the almond (bodom) motif that Bukhara embroiderers have used for generations. The stitching is dense and even, the drawing is small in scale, and the overall effect is closer to a printed chintz than to the big-roundel suzanis of the Fergana Valley; it is a piece you read up close as much as from a distance.

The thread is silk on a cotton ground, entirely hand-embroidered in Uzbekistan for Alesouk. Because it is new, it arrives clean and bright, with none of the wear a vintage cloth carries — the right choice where a suzani will be used on a bed or a table rather than kept behind glass.

210 × 150 cm covers a double bed as a spread, hangs as a headboard-width wall panel, or dresses a dining table for twelve. The cream ground suits pale rooms where a black-ground suzani would be too heavy.
