Black and white velvet ikat is woven on a traditional loom using abrbandi, where the warp threads are dyed before weaving. The result is a clean, high-contrast motif with the characteristic soft edges of true ikat work. The velvet pile is formed by cutting a double-layer weave, giving the textile a low, dense surface that shifts slightly in tone depending on the direction of the pile.
The monochrome palette is practical for both interiors and garments. In home settings, black and white works well in minimal rooms, modern spaces, or anywhere texture is more important than colour. It also maintains clarity under different lighting conditions, making it suitable for pillows, chair backs, and decorative panels. For clothing, black and white velvet is often used for jackets, evening pieces, and structured garments worn in cooler seasons since the colours remain stable even in low winter light.
