Yellow and Blue Lumbar Ikat Cushion Cover

Blue scrolls curl across a yellow ground with pink hearts caught inside them. Three strong colours in one warp and no pale ground to separate them, which is as much as a lumbar cut can carry.

Where it goes

It lifts a grey, white or charcoal sofa, and works on a bench in a bright hallway. See the rest of the lumbar cushion covers, or the square ikat pillow covers in the same cloth.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
