Magenta Lumbar Ikat Cushion Cover

A magenta palmette opens at the centre of a white cloth with taupe combing feathering away from it. The taupe is the magenta bath at a fraction of its strength, held back by a second round of tying.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.

Availability
