Suzani manufacturing takes much time of craftman. First, embroidery suzani decorated with geometric motifs on a plain fabric. Then hand-dyed. Warp threads are bound and dyed at least six times. Often, embroidery motifs enter a design through the embroiderer’s or craftsman’s wish to incorporate a unique striking image from their own lives. In this way, motifs deploy powers of sympathetic magic. Thus, suzani resembles geometricized, vaguely floral pattern drawn upon a repertoire of motifs from the dynamic embroideries of the nomadic Uzbek. Embroideries are unique in style, their primitive, dynamic, asymmetrical motifs seeming to float on the background fabric.
