There are some legends about origin of such technique. One legend states that once an artist sat by a fast running stream. The stream reflected the clouds, and changed their form. Suddenly sunrays were fractured and became a rainbow. They reflected in the stream. The artist saw a picture of clouds playing with colors. He painted that picture and showed it to weavers then transferred his picture to fabrics. Later the word abr ( it means cloud) used as the of the process of dyeing base threads in traditional fabrics, so fabrics name abr-fabrics and weaver’s name abrbands.

The apparent “blurriness” of the pattern is a characteristic of ikat textiles. The blurredness is the result of the extreme difficulty the weaver has in lining the dyed yarns so that the pattern appears perfectly in the finished cloth. The blurring minimized and it using finer yarns or with the craftsman’s abilities. Ikats with little blurredness, multiple colors and complicated patterns are more difficult to create, and therefore often more expensive. However, the blurredness that is so characteristic of ikat is often appreciated by textile collectors.
The uniqueness of the ikat technique does not allow master to create two identical fabrics!
The wide width of the fabric makes it perfect for table runners, pillow covers, window treatments, bed scarves and more. This vivid mix of colors will be a fun addition to a variety of decorative styles, from traditional to modern.
