White Uzbek Suzani Zardevor Frieze – Red Rosettes on a Blue Trellis

A zardevor is the long, low suzani made to run along the top of a wall, above the niches or the bedding, and this one keeps the proportion: 180 cm long by 100 high. On a white cotton ground a trellis of blue diamonds holds red-and-orange rosettes with green leaves at every crossing, so the pattern is regular and reads as a textile rather than a picture; a red border with small motifs frames it. The white ground makes it the brightest piece in the section.

Silk thread on cotton, hand-embroidered in Uzbekistan. Newly embroidered for Alesouk in the traditional stitches; it arrives clean, even and bright.
