Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — 100% Handwoven Silk
The Abdulla Design velvet ikat was developed in 2010 by master weaver Abdulla Gafur Ugli, known for his disciplined warp preparation and clean abrbandi alignment. The pattern is a controlled black-and-white arrangement with a steady rhythm along the warp. As with all velvet ikat, the warp threads are resist-dyed before weaving, producing the softened, blurred transitions unique to true ikat work. The velvet pile is formed by cutting a double-layer weave, giving the fabric a compact surface that responds clearly to directional brushing.
The monochrome palette is one reason this design became a top seller among upholstery makers. Black and white hold visual structure even on curved surfaces like chair backs or ottomans, and the colour stability makes it suitable for rooms with changing light. In garments, this palette supports structured coats and jackets, especially pieces meant for evening use. The design also integrates easily into homes that favour minimal, modern, or architectural interiors, offering pattern without introducing strong colour.
