Red and blue, and almost nothing else: the red cotton ground is covered edge to edge with blue rosettes shaded in white, joined by blue vines and interrupted by rows of blue roundels, so dense that the red reads as a background colour rather than a ground. In the middle a rectangular panel is left in plain red, framed by the embroidery — the traditional place for a folded quilt or a tray when the cloth lay on the floor, and now simply a rest for the eye. A blue-and-white floral border completes it.
Silk thread on cotton, hand-embroidered in Uzbekistan; the density and evenness are those of new work. Newly embroidered for Alesouk in the traditional stitches; it arrives clean, even and bright.
