A magenta medallion opens into black wings across a cover more than a metre long. At 38 × 102 cm this is one of two extra-long lumbars we hold — long enough to run the width of a single bed or a two-seat sofa.

How this ikat is made
The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
