Golden yellow flames climb the length of the cover with coral arrowheads set between them, all on a cream ground that keeps the warmth from turning heavy. The ikat blur is at its clearest on points like these.

Where it goes

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. On a cover this long you see the repeat run its full course rather than framed in a square, and every soft edge is the dye finding its way past a tie. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
