Periwinkle Blue Ikat Bolster Cushion Cover

Periwinkle blue and grey fans rise in panels along the cover, broken up by blocks of plain cream so the pattern breathes. It is the gentlest thing in the bolster run and the easiest to live with.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. On a cover this long you see the repeat run its full course rather than framed in a square, and every soft edge is the dye finding its way past a tie. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
