Grey Fan-Leaf Ikat Bolster Cushion Cover

A quiet ikat for people who want the length without the colour. Grey and taupe fronds open across a cream ground, each one feathered at the edge where the dye slipped past its binding, and the repeat runs the whole hundred centimetres rather than being cropped into a square.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. On a cover this long you see the repeat run its full course rather than framed in a square, and every soft edge is the dye finding its way past a tie. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
