Blue and rose wings open either side of a charcoal centre on a white ground. Three dyes on a cotton warp, which takes colour less willingly than silk, so the shades stay matt rather than glowing.

Where it goes
It works on a cream, grey or navy sofa, and stands up to daily use in a family room. See the rest of the lumbar cushion covers, or the square ikat pillow covers in the same cloth.
How this ikat is made
The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
