Pink and Yellow Lumbar Ikat Cushion Cover

Yellow and pale blue rays comb inwards from both edges to meet a magenta core at the centre. The teeth along every ray are the hardest detail in the Fergana repertoire to hold — each one is a separate tie.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
