The same paired almond, here in taupe on cream — one colour at two strengths, and the quietest of the three colourways. Read quickly it is a heart; read slowly it is the badom, the almond Uzbek weavers have used as a sign of plenty for centuries.

How this ikat is made
The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven — abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge on this cover is the dye finding its way past a tie, which is why no two lumbar covers off the same bolt are identical. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
