Bukharian Design Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — Multicolor, 100% Handwoven Silk
This textile follows the structure and colour arrangement found in old Bukharian chapan robes, where ikat motifs were designed to be read vertically along the body. The pattern is formed by tying and dyeing the warp threads before weaving, a method known as abrbandi. When the pre-dyed warps align on the loom, the familiar blurred contours of Central Asian ikat appear. The velvet pile comes from cutting a double-layer weave, adding depth and giving the colours a soft, slow movement.
The multicolor palette recalls the older robe traditions in which colours were symbolic and chosen to reflect status, season, or ceremonial purpose. Multicolor velvet ikat behaves differently from single-tone fabrics: when used in home interiors, it becomes the focal point rather than an accent. It pairs well with neutral furniture, traditional wood, or quieter textiles.
The usable width is approximately 40 cm, with the design repeating at about 60 cm. A warp-joining line appears near 120 cm, typical of handmade silk velvet ikat. Each unit equals one continuous meter. Suitable applications include coats, jackets, pillows, décor panels, accessories, table runners, and small upholstery pieces.
