Pink and Blue Flame Ikat Round Bolster Cover

Large flame-and-almond motifs in pink and peach sit on bands of periwinkle blue, outlined in charcoal. The repeat is wide, so each roll shows a slightly different part of the pattern.

How this ikat is made

The pattern is tied and dyed into the warp threads before a single row is woven: abrbandi, the cloud-binding. Every soft edge is the dye finding its way past a tie. The cloth is handwoven in Margilan, in the Fergana Valley; the cover is cut and sewn in our own workshop in Bukhara.
