Large pointed-oval medallions — saffron yellow, burgundy and a grey-blue — float on a cream ground with plenty of space between them, so the cloth reads light and open despite the size of the motif. It is the traditional Fergana layout that Uzbek tailors cut for robes, and it is easy to place the medallions where you want them on a garment because the repeat is generous. Sixty per cent silk, forty cotton, with a soft gloss on the cream.

Suitable uses

Handmade note
Handwoven on a wooden loom, so expect what the loom leaves: motif edges that feather where the warp shifted, a hairline of colour variation along the length, and a selvedge that is not perfectly straight. The pattern is dyed into the thread, not printed on it, and shows on both faces. Colours differ slightly between dyelots, so order the full length you need at once.
