The khan-atlas drawing — xon atlas, the ‘king’s satin’ pattern that the pure-silk cloths of Margilan made famous — woven here in half silk, half cotton so it can be worn and washed every day: red, turquoise, yellow and black motifs in dense columns with white outlines. 40 cm wide.

Suitable uses

Traditional-cut dresses and kaftans, a chapan, a scarf, cushion fronts against plain velvet. Too dense for large curtains. Pairs with the burgundy traditional (CF0597). More cloths of this kind are under Silk Ikats.

Handmade note

Handwoven on a wooden loom, so expect what the loom leaves: motif edges that feather where the warp shifted, a hairline of colour variation along the length, and a selvedge that is not perfectly straight. The pattern is dyed into the thread, not printed on it, and shows on both faces. Colours differ slightly between dyelots, so order the full length you need at once.
