Cotton Design Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — 100% Handwoven Silk
The Cotton Design velvet ikat is woven on a traditional Uzbek loom using the abrbandi method, where the warp threads are tied and dyed before weaving. This creates the softened, feathered edges characteristic of true ikat work. The motif follows a cotton-bud style arrangement, a form commonly found in Central Asian textile ornamentation.
The combination of red and beige behaves predictably on silk velvet: red appears deeper due to strong dye absorption, while beige softens the overall contrast. This palette is often chosen for textiles meant to bring warmth into a room—cushions, ottomans, small upholstery pieces, or seasonal interior accents. In clothing, red and beige velvet is traditionally used for autumn and winter garments because the colours remain stable in low light, making them suitable for coats, structured jackets, kaftans, or festive pieces. Red holds cultural significance in many regions as a colour associated with celebration and strong presence, while beige grounds it, preventing the fabric from appearing overly intense.
The fabric width is around 40 cm, with a pattern repeat close to 60 cm. A warp-joining line appears near 120 cm, which is normal in handmade velvet ikat. Each quantity equals one continuous meter. This textile is appropriate for pillows, outerwear, decorative runners, curtains, small upholstery, and craft applications.
