Antique Bukhara Design Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — 100% Handwoven Silk
This velvet ikat follows an old Bukhara-style arrangement, where the motif is built on repeating almond and flame-like shapes. The design is formed by dyeing the warp threads before weaving, allowing the colours to merge into one another with the softened edges typical of traditional abrbandi work. The pile is created by cutting a double-layer weave, giving the surface depth and a slow shift in tone as the velvet is brushed.
The palette—red, gold, yellow, and golden black—is characteristic of historical Central Asian textiles. These shades were often chosen for garments intended for ceremonies or winterwear, as warm colours hold their strength under low evening light. Red and gold behave particularly well on silk velvet: red absorbs dye deeply and becomes richer when the pile moves, while gold and yellow catch light sharply, giving highlights without metallic thread. Golden black acts as the stabilising tone, preventing the fabric from appearing overly bright. In interiors, this combination works in spaces with warm wood, traditional furniture, or rooms where colour is meant to stand out—cushions, narrow upholstery panels, wall hangings, or seasonal accents. For clothing, these colours suit coats, statement jackets, and festive garments worn in cooler seasons.
The usable width is approximately 40 cm. The pattern repeats close to 60 cm, and a warp-joining line appears around 120 cm, an expected mark of handwoven velvet ikat. One quantity represents one continuous meter.
