Rainbow Clouds Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — 100% Handwoven Silk
The Rainbow Clouds design is a handwoven silk velvet ikat featuring curved chevron lines created through the abrbandi resist-dye method. The pattern forms when the warp threads are tied and dyed before weaving, resulting in the blurred transitions typical of traditional Uzbek ikat. The colours—red, olive green, and blue—shift subtly as the velvet pile changes angle, a natural effect of cut-pile silk weaving.
Velvet ikat is produced by weaving two layers of cloth at the same time and then cutting them apart to form the pile. This process gives the fabric its depth and surface variation. Because the preparation, dyeing, and weaving are all performed by hand, small differences in colour alignment, slubs in the silk threads, and minor weaving irregularities appear throughout the length. These characteristics mark the textile as handmade rather than machine-printed.
The fabric width is approximately 40 cm. The design repeats at roughly 60 cm, and a loom-joining line appears near 120 cm, created when the warp sections are connected. This is a typical feature of handmade silk velvet ikat. The material is suitable for pillows, jackets, dresses, décor panels, table runners, small upholstery elements, and interior textile projects. Each quantity represents one continuous meter.
