Upholstery Velvet Zigzag Ikat Fabric — Silk Velvet in Yellow, Gold, Electric Blue & Red
This velvet ikat is woven on a traditional loom using the abrbandi method, where the warp threads are tied and dyed before weaving. The zigzag structure forms naturally as the pre-dyed warps align, creating the softened, decorative edges characteristic of Uzbek ikat. The velvet pile comes from cutting a double-layer weave, giving the surface its soft hand and allowing the colours to shift in depth depending on how the pile is brushed.
The palette—yellow, gold, electric blue, and red—is unusually vibrant for velvet ikat and behaves dynamically in interior spaces. Yellow and gold appear warm and reflective, making them suitable for rooms that benefit from additional light or seasonal warmth. Electric blue holds contrast firmly against warm tones and gives a modern accent, especially on pillows, chair backs, ottomans, or wall panels. Red anchors the pattern and prevents the palette from becoming overly bright. In clothing, these colours suit statement jackets, festival garments, and coats intended for cooler seasons, since silk velvet maintains richness under evening or diffuse light. This combination also works well for accessories such as bags or belts where strong colour presence is desired.
The fabric width is approximately 40 cm, with the zigzag motif repeating around 60 cm. A warp-joining line appears near 120 cm, which is expected in handmade silk velvet ikat. Each quantity is one continuous meter. Suitable uses include upholstery inserts, pillows, outerwear, table runners, decorative textile panels, and craft applications.
Specifications: 100% handwoven silk velvet; width ~40 cm (16 in); pattern repeat ~60 cm; loom join ~120 cm; sold by the meter.
Handwoven Notes: Slight shifts in motif alignment, slubs in silk threads, and natural irregularities are normal. Velvet softens as weaving starch loosens. A white repeat line appears every 200–220 cm in authentic ikat.
