Indian Red Stars Silk Velvet Ikat Fabric — 100% Handwoven Silk
This silk velvet ikat is woven on traditional looms using the abrbandi resist-dye method characteristic of Uzbek textile workshops. The pattern is built from star-shaped forms arranged along the warp, dyed before weaving to create the soft, irregular boundaries typical of true ikat. The colours appear in a combination of Indian Red and off-white, with tonal shifts caused by the way light interacts with the silk velvet pile.
Velvet of this type is created by weaving two layers of cloth at once and cutting them apart to produce the pile. This technique gives the material its depth and the slight shadow movement visible when the surface is brushed in different directions. Because the work is entirely manual—warp tying, dye preparation, loom tensioning—each meter carries small differences in alignment and colour registration. These are part of the nature of genuine handwoven velvet ikat rather than evidence of mechanical inconsistency.
The usable width is approximately 40 cm. The design repeats at about 60 cm, and a loom-joining line appears around 120 cm, which is a normal structural mark in handmade velvet ikat. This velvet ikat fabric can be used for throw pillows, coats, dresses, small upholstery elements, table runners, curtains, textile accessories, and interior decoration. Each unit is supplied as one continuous meter.
Specifications: 100% handwoven silk velvet; width ~40 cm (16 in); pattern repeat ~60 cm; loom line ~120 cm; sold by the meter.
Authentic Weaving Characteristics: Hand-dyed silk produces slubs, slight shifts in motif alignment, and natural irregularities. Velvet may feel firm at first due to starch used during weaving; it softens gradually. All authentic ikat shows a white pattern-repeat line every 200–220 cm.
Care: Wash gently with shampoo at 30–40°C. Colour appearance may vary by screen; swatches are available on request.
Shipping: Dispatched via Uzbekistan Registered Post within 2 days; estimated delivery 5–16 business days worldwide.
